Aerial work platform inspection
Aerial lift, Snorkel Lift, Areal platform, man-lift, and cherry picker are all terms for the same thing: Self-Propelled Elevating work platforms!
These devices are what we use to access locations above the ground and work safely. Workplace safety and health requires NDT testing after ten years and every five years.
The structural NDT testing checks the structural components for deficiencies and ensures that the equipment holding your most valuable resources, your people, is safe and fit.
The 10-year and 5-year NDT requirements outlined in workplace safety and health are the minimum standard required. The standard also indicates that a code that gives the recommended inspection requirements should be reviewed. These recommendations include a slightly less thorough structural inspection on an annual basis.
During the inspection, the NDT does not include ultrasonic testing of the pins. The rest of the inspection is the same. The same important check for deficiencies, cracks, and deformation or bends in the structure is completed.
More and more companies are recognizing the importance of regular inspections for the equipment that lifts their employees several meters off the ground. By taking this extra step, they are not only ensuring the safety of their employees but also gaining confidence in the reliability of their equipment. The small cost of an annual inspection is a small price to pay for peace of mind.
