CWB Procedure Testing

The Canadian Welding Bureau came into creation more than half a century ago. Formed by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), its role over the last 60+ years has been to oversee and administer Canada’s national welding standards, which are embedded in the national building code and other industry-specific documents.

Looking out for Canadians across the country, the CWB is responsible for certifying welding companies and qualifying the people who work for them to ensure buildings don’t collapse, pipelines don’t explode, and bridges don’t fall. For welding companies in the structural and erecting industry, it is mandatory that they be certified by the CWB and only employ CWB-qualified welders. In addition, many companies in other non-structural industries choose to obtain certification. Similarly, many welders will receive the necessary qualifications to further the advancement of their education and career.

Under the CSA Standard W47.1, W47.2, W186, and W55.3, all CWB Certified Companies are mandated to submit their welding procedures to the CWB. These submissions undergo a rigorous review process, with AXIS, one of the select few certified organizations in Canada, ensuring that approved procedures are not just a formality, but are capable of being met. We offer CWB Procedure Certification, a service that is instrumental in maintaining the integrity of the CWB standards.

Welding procedures are the backbone of structural welding, and their meticulous maintenance and management are paramount in ensuring that fabrications meet or surpass the quality standards expected by Canadian citizens. The last thing anyone wants is a weld that fails, and this is where procedure testing plays a crucial role. It provides an independent review, assuring that certified companies and qualified welders not only understand the procedures but are also consistently meeting them, without fail.

At AXIS, we can help companies and welders ensure they are correctly qualified to meet the supplied procedures approved by the CWB. We offer a range of services for both companies and welders. We can work to create a customized plan that can help you achieve certification or ensure you maintain it over time without running the risk of putting the public and your clients at risk.
